You are personally invited to attend a celebration of Austin Daylily Society’s 50th anniversary, as we host the 2010 AHS Region 6 Meeting and Garden Tour. We are planning on you coming and having a great time:

Hotel – The Holiday Inn NW/Arboretum is beautiful little hotel. It is big enough to hold us, but small enough that we will have the run of the place. You will find friends around every corner, both new and old. In addition to the meeting facilities there is free parking, an indoor pool, exercise equipment, and a first class restaurant. It is at the intersection of US Hwy 183 and Mopac/Loop 1, so it is convenient to all of Austin.

Austin – Take some extra time to explore some of Austin’s many attractions, such as:

  • Zilker Botanical Garden – 2220 Barton Springs Rd., just 15 minutes from the hotel.
  • Blanton Art Museum – UT’s beautiful new facility, just 13 minutes from the hotel
  • Bob Bullock Texas State History Museum – across the street from the Blanton Museum
  • Congress Bridge Bats – See 1.5 million bats emerge at dusk from the Congress Avenue bridge over Lady Bird Lake. It’s the largest urban bat colony in North America.
  • Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center – see the beauty and diversity of wildflowers

Flower Show - See the finest exhibitors in Region 6 compete in horticulture and design sections. Bring entries of your own, and enter!

Gardens - One day of garden tours with 4 beautiful gardens, including breakfast and lunch.

Judging Clinics and Workshops – Please consider becoming an AHS Garden Judge or Exhibition Judge by attending training.

Boutique/Plant Sale – Less expensive daylilies and other garden items for sale. (If you know someone who would like a table, please contact Rich Rosen.)

Program – Panel discussion of how to maximize daylily growth in your garden, featuring Lee Causey, Rozanne Tuffnell, Loris Garrett, and Steve Wingfield.

Region 6 Auction – This is the primary fund raiser for our Region 6 Newsletter. It is also great fun and a chance to acquire some great new daylilies at bargain prices.

Banquets – Two banquets, with featured speaker Tim Herrington. The Herrington family has been hybridizing award winning daylilies in Dublin, Georgia for 30 years. In addition to many cultivar awards, Tim has also won the Region 5 Service Award. Tim is probably best known for his stunning small double “cupcake” daylilies. He will be speaking about Diversity in Daylilies.
